ABOUT US
Our Story
Supremacy Sounds was born in 2000, the brainchild of DJ Simple Simon and the late DJ Last Born (RIP). Their journey began humbly when DJ Simple Simon, fresh from high school, was running a small music stall on Nairobi’s bustling Luthuli Avenue, selling CDs and tapes. After DJ Last Born was let go from the popular Jambo Sounds, fate connected the two at Simon’s stall, quickly bonding over their shared passion for music.
Recognizing Simon’s drive, DJ Last Born began mentoring him in the art of DJing from his home in Eastleigh, Nairobi. Together, they recorded their first mixtape, Missile 1, in 2002, instantly becoming a local sensation played everywhere from matatus and barbershops to homes citywide. By the end of that year, their Missile series had grown in popularity, firmly establishing the Supremacy Sounds name.
In early 2003, seizing an opportunity when DJ Last Born’s former club ( Hollywood ) faced closure, the duo approached the owner of Nyanza House Club in Nairobi’s bustling Mfangano Street. They pitched the idea of hosting their own nights, confident their following would boost business. Their debut night in March 2003 was such a hit that the club completely ran out of drinks. The duo soon moved on to larger venues like Chemil, York House, and Florida 2000, reshaping Nairobi’s nightlife.
Supremacy Sounds quickly became a cradle for emerging talent, nurturing now-renowned DJs like Ronnie Boy, Selector Technics, Ebony, Supa Marcus, Jah Watchman, Juggler, DJ Juan, Tsunami, Professor Nuts and dynamic MCs like Fullstop, Daddy Poa.
Expanding their influence beyond clubs, Supremacy Sounds launched a popular reggae show on Kiss 100 FM and created the groundbreaking TV show Riddim Up, airing first on Citizen TV and later on K24 TV. DJ Simple Simon’s reputation took him global, performing across the UK, Dubai, Qatar, Seychelles, Bahrain, Australia, and eventually the USA, where he settled in Houston, Texas, in 2012.
